black Gram Lentils(उड़द दाल) – half kg
Sweet Curd – 2 cups
Asafoetida (हींग) – half tsp
Ginger – 1 teaspoon
Green chilli – 4-6
Coriander leaves – 1 cup
Raisins- half cup
Pomegranate seeds – 4 tablespoons
Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder – 2 tsp
Chaat Masala – 4 tsp
Tamarind Chutney – as required
Cumin – 2 teaspoons (roasted)
Topping with Black salt – as per taste
Oil – as per need
Directions
- First of all, take urad dal, wash it, and soak it in water for at least 4 hours.
- Now make its paste with the help of a mixer. Add asafoetida to it and beat it till it becomes creamy.
- Add coriander, roasted cumin, green chili, ginger, raisins, and salt to this lentil paste and mix well.
- Now, take a pan and deep fry the Bhallas in oil. After this, take them out in a separate vessel. Soak these fried bhallas in salt water and keep them for some time.
- Now, after an hour, squeeze out the water and add sweet curd, roasted cumin, tamarind chutney, pomegranate seeds, chaat masala, garam masala, and coriander leaves over it. Your tasty Dahi Bhallas are ready.
Notes
- Use split urad dal (black gram lentils) for the bhalla, as they yield a better texture and flavor.
- Soak the lentils for at least 4-5 hours to ensure they grind smoothly.
- Adjust the amount of spices and chutneys according to your taste preferences.
- Try adding other ingredients to the bhalla mixture, such as grated carrots or chopped cilantro, for added flavor and texture.
